Maher Arar and Michael Ratner

Thursday, January 29, 2004

Maher Arar, the Ottawa engineer who, in 2002, was arrested during a stopover in New York and deported to his native Syria under suspicion of being a member of Al Qaeda. Mr Arar, who maintains his innocence and claims the US knew he would be tortured in Syria, is now back in Canada. He has filed a law suit against Attorney General John Ashcroft and other top American officials, and he will be joined by his attorney, Michael Ratner, to discuss his ordeal and its human rights implications.
