Cheryl Reed, a non-Catholic, is the author of Unveiled: The Hidden Lives of Nuns. She interviewed more than 300 nuns from a wide variety of orders, from self-flogging nuns who barely speak, to those who work in homeless shelters and as prison chaplains.
