Jonathan Lethem discusses his latest novel, Fortress of Solitude. It’s about a friendship between a white kid (Dylan) and a black kid (Mingus) in Brooklyn. Dylan and Mingus live on Dean Street in a neighborhood on the cusp of change.

    Mariane Pearl

    In her memoir A Mighty Heart (co-written with Sarah Crichton), Mariane Pearl describes the wrenching month between her husband Daniel Pearl’s kidnapping and news of his death in Karachi, Pakistan in 2002. Mariane was very pregnant when her husband died, and she’s since given birth to a healthy son.
