Fortune magazine writer Bethany McLean’s 2001 article questioning Enron’s finances was an early harbinger of the company’s collapse, but McLean admits that her article "barely scratched the surface" of Enron’s problems. She’s gone into much more detail in her new book, The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron, co-written with Peter Elkind.
