Van Johnson, the red-haired, freckle-faced embodiment of the “boy next door” became a major star at MGM during the war years, and the 1950s. At one point, his popularity was second only to Bing Crosby’s. He died just recently at the age of 92. But you can still hear his 1991 interview with Leonard.
