The great Jazz pianist, Oscar Peterson died on Sunday outside of Toronto where he lived. He was 82. His career spanned seven decades and garnered international acclaim for his exceptional speed and technique. WNYC's Sara Fishko interviewed him on the eve of his 75th birthday in 2000.

That notable date, December 25th, is also the birthday of the exuberant entertainer Cab Calloway of Hi-De-Ho fame. This year it's his centennial, which has Sara Fishko considering his vibrant legacy.

Franz Liszt was not only a great composer and pianist but one of the romantic icons of the 19th century. He's remembered for his music, of course, but also, as Sara Fishko tells us, for some remarkable creations which remain in use to this very day.
