    Brubeck On The Brink

David Brubeck never intended to become a musician, but instead he planned to go to school to become a veterinarian and work with his father on their ranch. After the head of zoology at his college told him his mind was at the conservatory across the way and to stop wasting their time, he began going to school for music, though he was nearly expelled after his teachers discovered that he could not read music. Were it not for his wandering mind, we might not have been able to share the piece Recuerdo that we’ll hear tonight. Also, music from Lou Harrison, Leonard Bernstein and Gabriel Faure.

    Also Featured Tonight:

David Bernard Roumain / The La La Song
Thelonious Monk / Willow Weep for Me
Gavin Bryars / The Archangel Trip
    Sebastian Currier / Quiet Time
Ned Rorem / A Quiet Afternoon

    Hi Terrance,

I loved the Roumain piece. Very nice start to the show. Great to have you back on air!

I SOOO wish you had a live playlist -- it's really quite frustrating to hear a piece I love, and then not know what it is, and have to try to remember to check back a day later (or whatever it is) to learn what played. I'm at work, so I'm not devoting 100% of my attention to you, and thus don't hear every name, etc.

Other radio stations do this -- could WNYC take it on?

Loving this current piece (some kind of folksy string quartet thing).

What were you playing around 7:18pm tonight? I absolutely loved it and want to find it!
