Through her interdisciplinary performance collective VisionIntoArt, Paola Prestini creates what TimeOut New York calls "ingeniously staged concert pieces that gracefully walk the line between opera and performance art." The Italian-born, New York-based composer joins David Garland for a conversation about her music and current projects.
Paola Prestini's music and arrangements have been performed by VisionIntoArt, the Kronos Quartet, Prism Quartet, Haydn Orchestra, and ensembles and soloists throughout the U.S and abroad from Lincoln Center and BAM (the Brooklyn Academy of Music) in New York City to Svetlanov Hall in Moscow, Russia, and from the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., to Teatro Manzoni, in Milano, Italy. She has composed scores for numerous films that have garnered awards from the Sundance Film Festival and the Film Festival at Austin. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Prestini has been the recipient of numerous awards from organizations such as American Society for Composers and Publishers (ASCAP), the American Music Center, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).
