Evening Music

Brecht without Weill

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

Ute Lemper ransacked her personal collection to find material that illuminates one of the great literary geniuses of the 20th century. We not only hear the songs and poems of Berthold Brecht, but also rare audio clips of the poet himself in action.

Thank you Ute and WNYC. This is why I will always be member of this station. Please create a podcast.

  • [4] str November 06, 2007 - 07:48PM

Yes - podcast! I missed the first half of tonight's (Tuesday's) program and Thursday and Friday are definitely not going to be possible.

This series should be able to be heard other than 'live.'

  • [5] str November 06, 2007 - 08:05PM

Please also add a listing of the songs & credits played on the programs.

This is a fantastic transmission, artistically and historically. Thank you all concerned at WNYC. I wish I knew how to iPod, and I guess I will have to learn in my old age! nelida

Please make this series available online. The Brecht presentation is of particular interest. My husband is a fan and a scholar of Brecht, and was stuck in a tech rehearsal during tonight's presentation. I hope you will either replay or post so that he can catch the presentation.

  • [8] str November 06, 2007 - 09:07PM

Actually, it looks like the programs are being made available online at:

    http://www.wnyc.org/music/berlin.html

I don't yet see a complete list of songs and credits (song titles only).

Unique, exciting, must be kept available -- it's heartening to find the Nov 5 broadcast on podcast at the address noted in str's message above.

    wunderbar. thank you.

  • [11] Bill from Newport News, VA November 07, 2007 - 06:48AM

One suggestion--the 128kbps option for listening live doesn't show up in my browser, even after multiple refreshes, until almost 7:01pm. Could you please make that option available at roughly 6:59pm instead?

  • [12] George Preston from WNYC Music Director November 07, 2007 - 10:39AM

Thanks to all for listening and for your comments. We love having Ute on the air!

Unfortunately, due to music rights, we can't offer a podcast or downloads for this series, but it will be archived for on-demand streaming here at www.wnyc.org for you to hear again and again.

Don't miss our live Berlin Philharmonic broadcast on Wednesday, November 14th, from Carnegie Hall, 8pm.

    George
