The daring spirit of the Weimar era was reborn in the 1970s and lives on in modern Berlin. From Lou Reed to Nina Hagen to Roger Waters, Ute Lemper presents latter-day keepers of the flame.
Never thought I'd hear Kraftwerk on Evening Music. Kudos for a great show.

I am very much enjoying your nightly offerings of yours and others' singing. Personally, I find this interesting, because my father grew up in Berlin during the Weimar era, but never talked about it. I've long enjoyed the Brecht/Weil collaboration, but often wondered where/how Weil arrived at what to me is a unique rhythmic-harmonic statement.

A wonderful show, and very moving, especialy today, Nov 8, an important day in German history. Ms. Lemper is a great radio host who put the music in context to historical events and social trends. Will these shows be available as podcasts? Weiter so! Bernd Hendricks

It has been wonderful to hear Uta Lemper speak with such eloquence this week about her birthplace and to hear the great selection of old and new songs she has chosen for her shows. From what I've heard tonight, I think her new album displays her talents even more effectively than her previous works.

Love the shows... but where might there be references to look up the cabaret song lyrics texts, or find the recordings (e.g. to play for my music class)? The words generally go by too fast for me to catch the sense of the lyrics, so a key part of the experience is just beyond reach. (Except for the Baron Muenchhausen song last night, which was performed in both languages.) Thanks for your help and for some exciting and novel listening.
