Cantos Desiertos and June Buddhas

Sunday, June 24, 2007

Terry Riley's suite for guitar and flute, Cantos Desiertos (Desert Songs) combines Spanish folk traditions with Eastern modal influences, all filtered through the sieve of minimalism. Written for Chorus and Orchestra, June Buddhas is based on excerpts from Jack Kerouac's Mexico City Blues, and was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation in 1991.
