Written in a more densely minimalist style than many of Górecki's other works, the String Quartet No. 2, "Quasi una fantasi" (like a fantasy) evokes the rhythmic and emotional vitality of Béla Bartók. We hear it tonight from the Kronos Quartet, which has commissioned and recorded all of Górecki's string quartets.
