"In a Landscape" was scored in 1948 for Louise Lippold's eponymous dance piece. The piece is meditative and dreamy, using the sostenuto pedal and the damper pedal on the piano simultaneously throughout. Some have compared the piece to works by Erik Satie; it is less percussive than many of Cage's other works.
