It's Greek to Us

It's all Greek to us—or is it? A modern take on a 2nd-century Greek "Hymn to the Sun"; Harry Partch's "Studies on Ancient Greek Scales"; Vaughan Williams's incidental music to a Cambridge production of "The Wasps" by Aristophanes that buzzes off into British bonhomie...must be time for some ouzo! The neo-Baroque style so much admired in works of Hindemith and Stravinsky also had roots in works by Max Reger, as we hear in his "Suite in Olden Style," performed by the Norrkoeping Symphony under Leif Segerstam. As Dvorak once said, "Mozart is sunshine." So sit back, relax, and let the glorious rays of the Piano Concerto No. 6 wash over you. It's brought to us by Daniel Barenboim and the English Chamber Orchestra.
