It's an evening of the usual good music but some unusual instrumentation. Before we solve the mystery of the half clarinet played in "Barbie's Other Shoe," a work about the losing and finding of a Barbie doll's shoe by Lori Freedman and Marilyn Lerner, we are introduced to a Tennessee music box, used in Connie Ellisor's "Blackberry Winter." A blackberry winter, Ellisor tells us, is a late spring frost, as unexpected as it is necessary for a rich blackberry harvest. Playing ordinary guitars in their extraordinary way are the Assad brothers, Sergio and Odair; they give us Astor Piazzolla's "Suite Troileana." They are playing, along with other family members, in the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday, April 3rd.
