Dr. Jacob Zeiner, Assistant Commissioner of Health for the City of New York, answers questions about Salk Vaccine problems.
Panelists: Lawrence Barrett, Douglas Kreiger, Martin Birmingham, and Fred Harrison.
Questions:
How permanent is the vaccine? How will the city pass out the vaccine to those who can't afford it? All children in the 1st and 2nd grade, and some in 3rd and 4th grade have been immunized. The dosage has been reduced to two doses from three. People should still maintain the same precautions; even Dr. Salk doesn't proclaim 100% immunity. Possibility of a black market for the vaccine. The vaccine should not be federally controlled. Should infants be immunized? Booster dose.
