The Lower West Side

Friday, October 02, 2009

It wasn't just the WTC site that needs redevelopment. Liz Berger, President of the Downtown Alliance, discusses their new study "Imagining a New "Lower West Side," which recommends a series of changes in the area directly south of the World Trade Center site.

What happens to senior citizens and people with disabilities in the scenario of more and more bike lanes, fewer and fewer places where car and wheelchair access is available?

We want, want, want, want, want... lots of things that many others don't want. People who work in lower Manhattan want and need to be able to take express buses and cars into the area. There needs to be more parking garages and a bus terminal. And No one should be living down there. It’s a business district and a target for terrorists. In addition, what the area needs and posterity demands is more green space - the WTC site should be a quiet memorial park w/o any commercial development.

Perhaps, you downtown libs can apply for the 2020 Summer Olympics, now that Chicago has been REJECTED for 2016!!! LOFL!!!
