Has your guest read the recent Malcolm Gladwell book, "Outliers?" There is a wonderful chapter on education and he claims (and I agree as an Ex-British teacher) that basically children do not spend enough time in school. He compares countries and as one would expect, the Asian countries do much better in math. He also highlilghts a school in the Bronx, the KIPP Academy which turns out children with wonderful skills. They start earlier, they work longer hours and they do not have such a long summer, when children lose so many important skills

This man is a disgrace and has no concept of what his adopted country is about.

Make sure he knows that before he leaves your show.

Tell your guest that warrant less wire tapping is not constitutional and if he thinks it's ok then maybe he should work for Russia, or China. This is the USA. Has everyone forgotten what we stand for? I haven't.

  • [4] Dan from NJ July 02, 2009 - 11:44AM

Dinh sounds like he could be quoting "1984" in most of his statements.

Please, oh please, challenge him on at least one of his statements. He's getting away with murder of the constitution here!

  • [5] Carey from Jersey July 02, 2009 - 11:46AM

Spying on american citizens is not american. I'm sorry but the Bush administration was wrong on this one. Your guest is lost.

  • [6] sarah from the city July 02, 2009 - 11:50AM

How much coffee did this guy have this morning?

  • [7] Dan from NJ July 02, 2009 - 11:50AM

"A recognition of the values of his culture"???

He wouldn't know our values if there were a valid court order to have them kick him in the shin!

  • [8] Nick from Atlanta, GA July 02, 2009 - 11:50AM

I think what bothers me most about his arguments is his projection of what we wanted out of government. I just don't want the same things he wants with this country - namely trading protection and liberty. These decisions were made higher up without much public discussion. I just don't feel like I can see eye to eye with him.

Your guest sounds eerily like former Atty. Alberto General Gonzales in both tone and content. Alas, this is not surprising.

Both of them appear to be clueless regarding our Constitution.

  • [10] PJBeee from Ridgewood NJ July 02, 2009 - 11:54AM

    I meant "former Atty. General..."

  • [11] kamal from Bronx July 02, 2009 - 11:54AM

Could just one of you Republican-bashers above come up with a substantive argument against anything Viet Dinh said?

    I didn't think so either...lol

  • [12] Dan from NJ July 02, 2009 - 11:55AM

Wait. That argument is what he calls clear and he can't wrap his mind around the 4th Amendment???

This guy makes my skin crawl.

Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither - Ben Franklin

  • [14] kamal from Bronx July 02, 2009 - 11:57AM

Could just one of the Bush-haters above state any substantive issues with anything Viet Dinh just said?

    I didn't think so either --- lol

Lefties sometimes get anti-immigrant - IF the immigrant doesn't agree with their leftist orthodoxies...

  • [15] Alex July 02, 2009 - 11:58AM

Would he be interested in a position on the Supreme Court if nominated?

  • [16] Amy from Manhattan July 02, 2009 - 11:58AM

I'm having trouble believing what Viet Dinh is saying after all that's happened since the USA PATRIOT Act went into effect. He's proud of the way it was rushed through Congress without enough time to look at all its provisions? He thinks it was a good thing that everyone was up 24/7 reading it over? Sleeplessness is not exactly conducive to good judgment, & it showed in what was allowed to go into the Act. Someone held in detention challenged it & the part that allowed his detention was overturned as unconstitutional? He should never have been detained & had to go through that in the 1st place!

read the comments, they are all right on target.

Not surprisingly, the man's bio sys he was an Olin fellow. The Olin foundation has supported and continued to support a radical right revision of our court and justice system, and more.

    Authoritarian Schmittian politics, anyone?

  • [18] kamal from Bronx July 02, 2009 - 12:01PM

What is so "radical right" about it? after Obama's gitmo backpedalling I suspect there is little that seperates him from Viet Dinh

  • [19] Carey from Jersey July 02, 2009 - 12:09PM

    Kamal from Bronx:

I hope you're joking. Anti-immigrant? Really? This is not a left or right issue. This is a constitutional issue (which includes all of us). Our constitution was hijacked and re-written to please those who don't respect it, and because it got in their way. Pathetic. PLEASE DON'T CHANGE THE SUBJECT.
