    There are many spaces in NY and around the world that offer "coworking" - a growing movement of shared office spaces that offer an alternative to internet cafes or working from home. It's a very focused environment, with a dose of social thrown in.

    You can find one near you at http://coworking.pbwiki.com. I've been working at one in Williamsburg off the Bedford L for 3 years and love it. Office by day, and venue for artist talks, film screenings, social media and tech workshops and trainings, etc. Cheap monthly memberships, daily drop in rates, and open to barter or sliding scale: http://www.thechangeyouwanttosee.org/coworking

    I have been running a business incubator in the Brooklyn Navy Yard for over a year called Open Code Studio. It has been an amazing experience in an amazing location. The synergies created have lead my own small business as an interior designer to expand into a branding company collaborating with two graphic designers who are members of the studio. I have also collaborated with our landscape designer and the wood shop that is part of the space has been highly productive for all of us.
