  Thanks for asking, "How much has changed?", given that organized labor has for years been in agreement on an immmigration policy that rejects an emphasis on restriction. Thus the new accord constitutes their settling the one, last point on which they still differed -- temporary contract labor.

  What about "LEGALIZING" the LEGAL Immigrants?? I've been waiting for my green card since 2004 through employment (I'm an Civil Engineer) but it seems that Immigration just dont care about professionals. I request an status update, immigration sent me a letter last weeks saying that If i dont hear from them in 6 MONTHS I should call them again.

  Let's get real illegal immigration hurts everyone including the illegals. They are subjected to “tortuous” lives here; they drive down the wage rates here which hurts our economy; they send billions of dollars out of the country which hurts our economy; they use social services which really hurts our economy; they commit crime at a high percentage of their population which hurts our quality of life and hurts the economy; their mere presence is a slap in the face to our laws and to the millions of people around the world who have been waiting to get in legally. Remember not every illegal alien will get to be President. Let’s be humane and green and arrest all illegal aliens and deport them to their country of origin – they are wasting energy and contributing to pollution. After all if it would save just one life.   Immigration makes for strange bed-fellows:

  Labor wants to reduce guest workers to keep the quantity of guest workers low and the base labor high. (The base labor is used to determine higher wages).

  I think it is totally ridiculos the procedure where some commission or congress decide how many guest workers should come to the country.

  It is 20'th centurey way to do things.

  The H1B or other guest visa requirements should be place on INS Web Site by potentioal employer with all job requirements and compensation. The Web Site should accept applications from all candidates and backgrould program should determine whether the applicant is US citizn or legal allien. And if s/he is than it will be the emplyer's task to prove to INS that the US citizen or legal allien can not be hired.

  If however there is no such applicants then emplyer can hire guest worker. This should apply to all visa extentions as well.
