I never liked Ray Kelly and I wish they'd dump him. He's got way too much power.
What the hell is he seeking out? Why doesn't he run a police department and train his cops to be decent law enforcement agents and not the thugs many of them are.
M-4's are not machine guns. They are assault rifles. They have three settings: Safe, single shot and three round burst. A machine gun, such as the B240 or M-2 .50 cal, is full auto and usually belt fed. If THOSE started to be used by the NYPD, then maybe I would be concerned. But SWAT using military style M-4's are of little concern to me. Private guards being armed would be more appreciated in this city as well. Such a shootng as what happened in Mumbai would never happen in Isreal where almost everyone has a gun.
If we are going to grant police still more power, then lets put some teeth in the laws that penalize police abuses. In particular, let's make higher-ups like Kelly responsible for the abuses of lower-downs.
Thank you Bob Hennelly for the Ipod comment! Yes, all of would be a bit safer if people paid more attention to the their surroundings!
Hey Brian, how about a segment on why people feel so compelled to block out all of the ambient sounds of NYC life?
Ray Kelly is the best commissioner since Bratton. The percentage of thugs on the streets far outweighs whatever thugs might exist in the NYPD, the usual Sharpton calumnies notwithstanding .
Why do we have a Department of Homeland Security if NYC police are going to be doing the 'terrorist' wiretapping.
Why can't they just send their suspicions up the ladder and let the 'experts' do the survielence.
Answer, that would reduce the POWER of commissioner Kelly and his crew of 'thugs'. The lack of oversight at the city level is VERY scary to a rights proponent.
