What of splitting our Defense dept. into two:

    1. Department of Defense

    2. Department of Offense

The first could borrow and spend freely, as determined via usual procedures.

The second would operate from funds coming from a US surplus budget. For example, no plundering in lean years.

Why is it so hard for Democrats to reach out to the military considering that there are many Republicans who have not served in the armed forces? I don't see why its so much better to have a President who is so trigger happy?

Why do you have to spend so much time speculating and trying to predict Obama's moves. We just went through two years of a seemingly endless campaign with rampant speculation daily. It's exhausting!

Can we just step back and return to news reporting and not news speculation?

A return to sanity would be so nice...

No way in hell should Gates be Secretary of Defense.

There should not be on ONE Bush hold over and that include Colin Powel.

So far I am not seeing much change, rather a maintenance of the status quo with a happier face. Robert Gates was the CIA bureau chief for the middle east when the Russians invaded Afghanistan. Gates trained Bin Laden to fight the Russians............OBL is a CIA operative and that is why he will never be captured. I wish you folks would be more diligent with your reporting.

    Wow. Marsfrog...

Don't attribute malice where incompetence fits much better - Quote by I'm not sure.

Gates is seemingly doing a great job, and he should be praised considering the pub - and dem before that - he's following.

I will disagree with your guess, that the U.S. was Isolationist until 1898 is false, the Indian wars that last since the inception of this country and the Mexican American war.
