Brian,
Can you ask Ms. Klein how some high powered individuals are taking advantage of the crises, mainly the present Mayor Bloomberg of NYC, in his messiah complex that only he can save the city from the looming financial crisis, and in doing so, is usurping and disenfranchising the people of this city by overturning two referendum, that the people have voted on already with a clear voice.
Most New Yorkers in a new poll out yesterday from CBS news are against the Mayor single backhandedly overturning the term limits by over 80 percent.
Could you ask Mrs. Klein who she would vote for if she was able to vote, and why?
Cheers
People have asked Naomi Klein who she would vote for in the U.S. election.
She said that as a Canadian, she didn't feel that it was appropriate for her to get involved in the U.S. election.
Didn't Civil Rights legislation, or the New Deal, work the same way? It seems to me that it's part of the nature of Democracy.
Brava Naomi. You hit the nails on the heads.
This isn't new...... think about LBJ and civil rights. Lincoln and the Emancipation of the Slaves. It always take a shock for any dramatic change
So THERE! lol.
Ms. Klein/Brian
How would you go about undoing the current
shocked tactic of the PRIVATIZED military?
created when dick cheney was the Secy of Defense..
??
The philosopher Giorgio Agamben talks about the State of Exception in which individual rights are withheld in the name of some kind of catastrophe. He points out that the state of exception eventually becomes the normal state of things and that constituting power eventually replaces the constitution...
The Feds just don't get it. Steal, steal, steal.
My answer to undoing the privatized military?
A New Mandatory DRAFT 17 or HS graduates.
Either Military OR USA service. NO exceptions.

How can she prove what money is going to what part of the company's spending? As far as Morgan Stanley, they have gotten investments from lots of other places. How can you say that it's the government money that is paying for compensation? Also they aid that much in comp LAST YEAR (or already paid out early this year). They haven't decided 100% on how much they are spending this year. Where is she getting her info?
Much of what she's saying is wrong. She's clear but misleading. I'm not totally defending Wall Street but there is so much more going on here than what she is saying and the banks employ way more people than the "greedy" investors.
I'm just saying there's more rancor than fact here.
Naomi Klein is intellectually dishonest, error-prone, and--there's no other way to put this--not terribly bright.
On the upside, she has a pretty name.
Here's an article--with an accompanying short video--that explains exactly what's wrong with this woman's methods, arguments, and conclusions. People shouldn't comment on Klein without seeing this article which, unlike Klein, is logical, factual, and enlightening:

No serious person takes Naomi Klein as anything but a partisan spinmeister and attention-hog.
@Chuck:
So let's get this straight. A pro-globalization, pro-multinationalist- corporation guy who is married to the woman who runs the neoliberal magazine Neo, says that Klein doesn't know what she's talking about and taking quotes out of context. Big deal. What else would you expect from a person like that?
I suggest you actually READ Klein's book before disseminating your misinformed judgment. Klein has actually responded to every single serious criticism (that didn't have an agenda) of the passages in her book. Also keep in mind that Klein's book was researched by over 200 people all over the world. You would have known this if you actually read the book.
It should be no surprise to anyone what is going on in Washington. It has been in this attitude for a very long time. It is finally becoming transparent; perhaps before too much longer, the people will wake up from their Matrix-esk life styles and demand Washington start doing the job they were hired to do and quit catering to big business, lobbyists and disreguarding the people.
Scarey thing is, both McCain and Obama voted for the bill. Scarey thing is, one of the two will be in the White House. Scarey thing is, Naomi is correct.
Wake up folks.
So I am a fence man just sitting here, listening. So hard it is to find 'reasonable' dialogue on these issues; issues that affect the world in which I live and my children must live. Like an argument between religions whom believing in the same God, move to destroy each other because the one thinks the other does not believe in the 'right' way! What, may I ask, is that to their God who, if of any value whatsoever would find it all totally irrelevant and besides the point? Humanity, who find the practice of co-operation almost impossible, WILL destroy this world. and, as the argument, recrimination and war rages on, this world, this planet, will summarily eject them, as it has done with so many before us. Perhaps humanity, like children, will in those last moments look back and wonder what on earth hit them and why, for all their so-called intelligence, they wasted so wantonly this phenomenal gift of life!
