Hour 1: Presidential Politics and Debate Preview
Two Hofstra University seniors join us to discuss tonight's debates: Sidhartha "Sid" Nathan is a member of debate club on campus, a founder of POISE free-speech society, and is a supporter of Barack Obama. Drew Bennett is a political science major, current president of POISE free-speech group, technically an independent, he has been a McCain supporter in the past.
Then, Lawrence Levy, Executive Director of the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra and a former columnist for NewsdayAswini Anburajan, reporter for Feet in Two Worlds and a former MSNBC campaign reporter
Matt Taibbi, Rolling Stone political correspondent and author of The Great Derangement: A Terrifying True Story of War, Politics, and Religion at the Twilight of the American Empire
Hour 2: 30 Issues - Higher Ed
Students in the room discuss the pressures they feel as they look towards graduation.
Then, discussing the cost of college, as well as Obama and McCain's platforms on college affordability and student loans, areMichael Dannenberg, Senior Fellow in Education Policy Program at the New America Foundation and editor of their Higher Ed Watch blog
Anya Kamenentz, staff writer for Fast Company, and author of Generation Debt as well as the Generation Debt column at Yahoo Finance
Herman A. Berliner, provost of Hofstra Univeristy, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Lawrence Herbert Distinguished Professor of Economics Plus, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), whose district includes Hofstra University, stops by to discuss her work on college affordability and her thoughts about tonight's debate.
