PBS Nova did a show on the Hydrogen Engine.

    it exists now.

Why doesnt the US mandate it in cars?

    Why not mandate hybrids now?

This whole thing is a game.

Yes you're right without government mandates, we're slaves to the Arabs.

I hope the Internet stream will be working during the show!?

  • [6] O from Forest Hills July 18, 2008 - 10:09AM

The AM 820 stream is working.

Is Brian okay? Did he say he would be off and I just tuned it out? Anyone remember?

    Al Gore-

What a pompous alarmist jackass- Thank goodness he was ONLY the Vice President... and thank goodness AGAIN, that President Clinton remained healthy while in office!

And thank goodness yet again for Floridian Republican and Independent voter! in 2000!!

  • [8] John Lobell from Manhattan July 18, 2008 - 10:12AM

I 100% agree with Gore, but I am disgusted by those who seek to prevent off shore drilling in the mean time. The sending of our wealth to the middle east will soon be seen as the most damaging thing done to this country in its history.

    o

    i don't think he did,

just time with the family i would guess

  • [10] Gary from Manhattan July 18, 2008 - 10:14AM

Amy, please ask your guests how much energy is lost along the power lines from the power plant to the end user. I heard 90% of energy is lost in that process.

  • [11] hjs from 11211 July 18, 2008 - 10:15AM

    Califano

    lol

    bush was better?

  • [12] O from Forest Hills July 18, 2008 - 10:19AM

I think our next door neighbor that changes their underwear once a year, has a cockroach infested apartment and hangs chicken out on their balcony after they skin them would be a better choice than good old weedwhacker President we have now.

  • [13] Suzanne Charle' from Manhattan July 18, 2008 - 10:22AM

As to the competitive nature of alternate forms of energy v. oil/coal. Con Ed currently allows consumers the choice of renewable energy. I signed up for a year, and despite the tax breaks given to oil and coal industry, so far my bills have been less than 10 percent higher than the oil/coal electricity delivered by Con Ed. Give the wind, solar and tidal sources the same break, and I'd like to see what happens.

  • [14] Susan from Kingston, New York July 18, 2008 - 10:22AM

As a country, we need to conserve and transition to clean renewable energy NOW! If we don't we will left behind!

  • [15] hjs from 11211 July 18, 2008 - 10:22AM

    o

    is weedwhacker a drug reference?

  • [16] Lance from Manhattan July 18, 2008 - 10:22AM

    Already the naysayers.

"It can't be done in 10 years!"

"Where's the money going to come from?"

These are the very attitudes that have kept us slaves to foreign oil, despite the best intentions 30 years ago of Jimmy Carter, as well as his successors.

  • [17] O from Forest Hills July 18, 2008 - 10:24AM

#14 yes and a pun on his last name.

  • [20] doctor david from Lower East Side July 18, 2008 - 10:27AM

How about the oil companies make LESS profit. Isn't 300 BILLION dollars kind of a lot? They could lower price at the pump today and still make 100 Billion profits.

I know politicians cannot suggest regulating oil companies like CON ED is regulated, but WNYC can.

please? Or are you owned by big oil as well??

It seems to me that meeting Gore's challenge will ultimately result in an economic boom and a society-wide shift equivalent to the industrial or digital revolutions. By taking the lead globally, and investing and legislating now, the dividends would be tremendous. It really is the only way forward.

Hey good think none of these comments were acknowledge on air and no calls were taken, otherwise there wouldn't have been time left for the next guest and the dead air.

There was a discussion of climate changes, always being referred to as "down the road." Look around--they're here. Also, how depressing to have speakers like Andrew Revkin sitting around talking about how impossible this 10-year deadline is. How inspiring Gore is by contrast. Why don't we talk about what IS possible? What good does it do to simply say it isn't likely? This is America--if this initiative were based on everyone getting their Starbucks everyday or getting to see "Grey's Anatomy" at night, it would get done. We have to think that way. Of course we can get it done. And of course we can get people motivated about it--when something is on fire, as our planet is metaphorically starting to be, people do act, espeically Americans.
