The degradation of the economy, both local and national, and the bad behavior of so many public players, will now lead to crime increasing. It was inevitable. The tenor of events washes over the population and makes people restless and reckless.

We've come so far in NY but we are bound to have more bad news as spring and summer progress.

    Sadly,

    Hillary

is NJ a BLUE state or a swing state?

  • [3] David! from NYC May 27, 2008 - 10:26AM

    #2--good points

About 10 years ago, I read a book by Nicolaus Mills, "The Triumph of Meanness." One of the author's example was Rudy's administration here in NYC, specifically, the de facto outlawing of homelessness without addressing the root cause. In hindsight, was Rudy right? Would a similar approach to the "little crimes" first reverse the trend we've seen this year?

I have my ideas about this, but I'm curious about what others might think.

Re: my post. Was #2, now #1 to which I addressed.

  • [5] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 10:29AM

    David!

maybe it was the general up swing of the ecomony during the clinton'42 years. crime fell for the same reasons??

    Hillary

i saw some young people littering this weekend

  • [6] David! from NYC May 27, 2008 - 10:40AM

hjs, those were interesting times, to be sure. No matter how they try to pillory Hillary's husband, I'd trade 8 years of little bush's administration for 1992-2000 in a skinny minute!

  • [7] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 10:45AM

    d!

only in a fundamentalist nation is sex a crime

  • [8] Hillary Brizell-DeLise from NYC May 27, 2008 - 10:45AM

Bloomberg is going to have to have an emergency meeting of all dept. heads in order to be proactive so that the qulaity of life issues and crime, in general, don't spin further out of control. The city and businesses should establish public service jobs, internships, other creative outlets, for youth and young adults this summer.

    Hillary

  • [9] David! from NYC May 27, 2008 - 10:46AM

7--hjs, here's to the day when the fundies on both sides go away!

  • [10] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 10:47AM

    hill

is he going to pay for that also?

  • [11] Hillary Brizell-DeLise from NYC May 27, 2008 - 10:53AM

HJS - I say there's so much money in the budget that gets spent inefficiently. Maybe he can use the funds that are freed up from taking away the city cars from all those who have them and shouldn't! Maybe he can use some of the city council's slush fund...How about the executives who are making multi-,illions while their shareholders are losing their shirts can kick in a few dollars to pay for a summer jobs program!

    Hillary

  • [12] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 10:56AM

    d!

fundamentalist on the right always seem more dangerous to me

  • [13] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 11:00AM

    Hillary

he's not going to do that, so lets keep it realistic

  • [14] seth from Long Island May 27, 2008 - 11:07AM

    hjs,

    NJ is a blue state

Key poll findings from Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll.

    Senate – Lautenberg in good position for re-election;

President – Dem voters turning from Clinton to Obama

Barack Obama’s message of change seems to have caused a change of heart among many Democratic voters who supported Hillary Clinton in the state’s February 5th primary. The poll also found that New Jersey is shaping up as true to its “blue state” reputation, no matter who gets the Democratic nomination. At this stage, Barack Obama leads John McCain by a sizable 24 point margin among the state’s voters – 56% to 32%. Hillary Clinton is also an early favorite over the Republican nominee, besting McCain by a smaller but still significant 14 point margin – 52% to 38%.

  • [15] Hillary Brizell-DeLise from NYC May 27, 2008 - 11:07AM

HJS-What's realistic is that action has to be taken; Bloomberg has been overlooking the neighborhood issues. He has been about big ideas and big business. There is money; the priorities just have to be reorganized.

    Hillary

  • [16] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 11:10AM

    seth

thanks, what about the third congressional district?

  • [17] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 11:11AM

    Hillary Brizell-DeLise

    when who how????

  • [18] David! from NYC May 27, 2008 - 11:19AM

    hjs 12,

Fundies on the right capture more attention, but the left fundies are pretty darn scary. There are those that advocate a nuclear 1st strike against predominantly Islamic nations because of the fundamentalist views of the leadership of those nations.

    "If there's one thing I won't tolerate, it's intolerance."

  • [19] Hillary Brizell-DeLise from NYC May 27, 2008 - 11:21AM

HJS -Haven't you heard about the multi-hundred million dollar slush fund...just to start??

It's been publicized, too, that although the mayor is anticipating the decline of revenue, NYC is still plenty flush with funds.

Do you understand that the entire economy will be in jeopardy, especially the huge part supported by the extraordinary rise in tourism, if the crime rate is allowed to surge?!

    Hillary

  • [20] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 11:26AM

    d!

    who is that??

  • [21] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 11:28AM

    Hillary

yes yes but where are our leaders??

    where is the vision?

  • [22] seth from Long Island May 27, 2008 - 11:29AM

    hjs,

Charlie Cook rates NJ's 3rd congessional district as a toss-up

    (Source http://www.cookpolitical.com/races/report_pdfs/2008%20house_comp_may22.pdf)

Go Obama 08 - do your job undeclared SDs and get behind him now to prepare for Nov

  • [23] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 11:32AM

why are the super delegates so quiet anyway??

  • [24] seth from Long Island May 27, 2008 - 11:51AM

#23 = $64,000 question. If Obama wins nomination and loses in Nov, I hope SDs will get criticism they deserve for sitting on their hands. Their cowardice is unbelievable, inexcusable. I didn't start as an Obama supporter but seeing disadvantages he's overcome to get this far, I've grown more impressed with him. I'm more disgusted with SDs than Hillary.I expect dumb/divisive comments from her as she gets more desperate.Their silence only encourages her to get more incendiary. Logging off for now. Let's beat McCain in Nov.

  • [25] David! from NYC May 27, 2008 - 11:53AM

hjs, ME! Seriously, though, I do find it amusing of those who won't tolerate intolerance. Kind of a catch-22, huh?

  • [26] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 11:56AM

    seth

i know it makes me want to start a 3rd party!

  • [27] David! from NYC May 27, 2008 - 12:01PM

I'm ready to change from Dem to Independent. 3rd party is sounding better to me all the time.

  • [28] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 12:05PM

    David!

right wight fundamentalist will stop at genocide.

what's the worse the leftly can do? talk u to death?

  • [29] hjs from 11211 May 27, 2008 - 12:11PM

    d!

Independent just means u have no say in the primaries

  • [30] mc from Brooklyn May 27, 2008 - 12:27PM

    Nice weekend everyone?

hjs, the super-d's may be afraid of the popular vote or maybe the divided Dem. party and can't figure out what to do. So they create stupid non-scandals like the latest in a lame attempt to have it done for them.

David! I'm ready to quit too. The local primaries are the only thing keeping me in. Working Families Party anyone?
