If anyone knows the way Hitler thinks, it's Bush.
How about the Democrat politicians- O-ba-ma raises the issue and 'assails'
'this administration' for '. . .not talkin' with our enemies. . .' - and then when The President 'assails them back'- these Demo boys (and girls) take umbrage at his 'assailing their assailing'! I guess there's a reason that the first three letter in the word assail are as they are!
Prease remenber: the four most negative and destructive forces in American Society are: Divorce; Religion; The Democrat Party; and. . . C-4 !!
Yes appeasement as Matthews said is not talking with your opponents but trusting them when you should not, giving things up in negotiations in a naive way. But negotiating and meeting is NOT appeasement.
I think the Democrats are jumping at phantoms. Bush is rapidly becoming irrelevant both here and abroad. Why give it all this oxygen?
George Bush is a fool and as history-stupid as they come, and has been over these waaaaay too long 7+ years spewing nonsense about things he knows nothing about. Why the media even gives any attention to what he says is telling about how the media just continues to perpetuate the blather of a fool. Who really cares what he says now.
It is funny that George Bush alludes to Iran and those that would "appease" them, but George Bush might as well be a hero in Tehran. His talk may be tough, but as Obama observed, his policies have strengthened them enormously while simultaneously weakening the US position in a profound way.
Two historical precedents: 1. Andrew Young was forced to resign as Jimmy Carter's ambassador to the UN for promoting negotiation with the PLO, now a standard practice. 2. George HW Bush was roundly mocked in the press for playing golf during the first Gulf War.
Because, and very unfortunately, he is still at the helm.
That's right, that's why I will not vote for anyone this year. Only Dennis Kusinich said he supported gay marriage and gay rights. It is my way of showing I will not vote for anyone against the inequality of these issues. I don't even support marriage as an institution BUT if it stays an institution then the should be equally available to everyone. The point here is equality.
We should give up the war to support our troops. We are shopping and living normally but as citizens at least we are sacrificing our civil liberties and national economic health for this war.
I think Americans should give up their cars for the war.

I believe the most destructive forces in the US are: Fundamentalist Religion; Corruption; Greed; hypocrisy; arrogance and incompetence - ALL Of them the integral building blocks of the Republican party - YOu guys have pushed aside any honest republicans with integrity
PS - Bush stopped playing golf in sympathy with the US soldiers - The reason he stopped is that Golf takes a block of 3-5 hours and concentration and the war was interrupting his game. As he sais 'it was not fun anymore' to have his game interrupted
Americans should give up this administration by demanding it be impeached for the Iraq war.
Bush should no give up golf for his invasion of Iraq rather BREATHING.
What President Bush should really give up to show solidarity with the troops would be HIS PRESIDENCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What should Bush have given up to show support for our troops? Hmm... I don't know... maybe the tax cuts that put plenty of money in the pockets of those who already HAVE plenty of money? Maybe then we'd've been able to afford decent armor and ammunition for our soldiers.
George II should resign immediately in order to support the troops.
Instead of giving up golf to support the troops, Bush should stop breathing!!!!
The comment that Pres. Bush referenced is attributed to Sen. William Borah of Idaho, made when Germany invaded Poland in 1939. Sen. Borah was a Republican isolationist.
What can Americans do to support our tropps? How about giving up unjustified offensive (and not defensive)wars?
Robert, seems like there should be a category of overall dissent so at least there would be a count, otherwise I think not voting is a useless tactic; but I totally hear you.
Here is something we can all give up: Lockstep thinking which both sides are guilty of. Stop believing the narrative as it's fed to you, even if it seems that everyone else is swallowing it.
When our forces are in combat, Americans should not just act as usual. If President Bush knew what he was doing, he'd ask all Americans to pay slightly higher taxes, donate blood, send packages to the troops, give to the USO, take a soldier's spouse to lunch, baby sit for a soldier's spouse, donate phone cards, send letters to soldiers who have no family or friends, etc. We should be asked to give something up for those who sometimes give all.

We can give up tax cuts for the wealthy to support our troops. President Bush can give up pop-up books and brush clearing.

genuine solidarity would require him to send his children (and those of his cronies) into the same danger that he sends other people's children.

If Obama gets nominated, it will be fun to see him wipe the floor with McCain in the debates
A couple of comments. (Sorry if I sound cynical):
- RE- McCain: Why does McCain’s sudden “out of the blue” 2013 date for leaving Iraq remind me of Nixon’s 1968 “secret plan” to end the Vietnam War? Nixon’s “plan” (which he never really had) along with the mirage of upcoming “peace talks” with North Vietnam enabled most middle-of-the-road Americans to press the snooze button on the war right before the 1968 election. Many Americans thus found it safe to join Nixon’s “law and order” bandwagon that promised protection from rioting “Negros” and drug crazed (and occasionally rioting) hippies and “students”.
- RE- “appeasement versus talking to your enemy”: I think that most Americans (and Brian, you could help with this) could use a primer what diplomacy actually is and what it isn’t. I’m not sure Obama will accomplish anything by “talking” to Iran, per se; however, on a myriad of issues the US needs to rebuild international coalitions and be the leader in continuous efforts to solve international problems through multi-lateral ownership of resolution efforts. Someday I would like to see “SUPPORT OUR DIPLOMATS” bumper stickers along with the typical “SUPPORT OUR TROOPS” ones. First though, Americans must understand what diplomacy is.

I agree with you, policy is the key and I've concluded Obama beats Hill hands down on policy and style. Yet, one can't ignore that she lowers the tone of the campaign while he tries to elevate it
