Queens Poetry
This weekend brings the first Jackson Heights Poetry Festival. We get a preview from Sarah Heinemann, director of the festival and Ishle Park, former Poet Laureate of Queens.
Also: Send us your Queens-inspired poems. Email your poem to
brianlehrershow@wnyc.org, and start each poem with the words “My Dream from Queens." Be sure to include your full name and a number where we can reach you; we'll have some listener-poets read their works on the air!

What is Queens?
Queens is the county East of Manhattan and North of Brooklyn. The N,Q, R, W, 7, V, F, E subways go there!
It is sad and bad when other place goes mad
With dear ones lost and at great cost
But always beware of those who say they care
And remember to skip race and play fair
The concern from those who make bad right here.
Who, say I?
In lieu, say I.
The child is lost
and flush-ed at cost
Be on guard!
Do not fard!
With racial free-pass!
a dream for my Queens
a great wall by east river
blocking manhattan
ESPERANTO??
I can think of an even more helpful language to learn (see yesterday's rental segment)
John Leguizamo is from Queens! I don't know if he's considered a poet, but he is an original and talented writer and performer.
Jack Kerouac lived in Ozone Park Queens when he wrote his first book. Another notch for arts in Queens
Sarah Heinemann rocks out loud
