New Yorkers: Bleak Outlook?

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

A new poll has found that New Yorkers have the bleakest outlook in two years for both their state and the nation as a whole. That said, their outlook for New York is far more rosy than for the US.

Why is that? What do you think? Is your outlook bleaker than it was two years ago? Is your outlook for the city much different from that for the nation?Comment below.

#1 Reason the city is in better shape than the nation: We have a better leader.

NY -- espec. NYC -- is a veritable lockbox for foreign, non-democratic wealth (money and investment) compared to their own.

    Simple as that.

How 'bat this nation, saved europe twice, dropped the bomb twice, invaded the middle east twice, elected Clinton twice.

NYC, one dirty bomb away from really reasonable rent.

We're smarter. I listen to the nonsense taken for news in the Presidential campaign and think, "That would never fly in NYC."

We have a smart mayor and smart voters, so we are ahead of the game.

New York is a trash pile.

We didn't have bad weather because we are gay friendly. God punished the midwest and especially the south because they are homophobes. How's that!!

NYC: Wrong, wrong, wrong direction. Where are you going to live-- especially if you're middle-class? Neighborhood businesses are shutting down, can't pay their rents, being replaces by big chain stores and bank branches. Brooklyn and Queens are turning into Manhattan before our eyes, and we feel helpless against that.

New York is in better shape than the rest of nation because we have a tourist economy. The euro is supporting the economy right now. New Yorkers, not McMillionaire New Yorkers are barely getting by. Manhattan has become Disneyland. All the rich live in the city and all the people who make it worth coming to live in the outer boroughs. The city has improved in regards to safety and transportation but it has come at a cost to the soul of the city. There needs to be a balance.

old news also, freed the slaves. ww1 almost 100 years ago.

    american empire not longer needed.

bridges fall as nation builds bridges to no where. do the math.

Well, then you will be happy viewing the rise of the Chinese Empire coming to take our place, just like we replaced Briton, who replaced Spain who replaced....

I think America is doing fine, not perfect, not without many mistakes, but that is who we are...

Wave after wave of rejects from Europe and misfits from the world have come here.

If you are rich and happy at home why come to America?

We are made up of the dregs of the world and that suits me fine.

    ugh!

sad but true except the rich Eu who come here spend a few weeks in their lux highrise condos and then go back to europe.

we are moving out of the 1st world down down down

Those who can still afford to live in NYC -- particularly if they can afford Manhattan -- are optimistic. The rest of us -- those who know we are one lost job away from being unable to pay our already barely manageable rents -- are not so hopeful.
