Interesting read on McCain, including his lack of comfort with economic issues, in current issue of New York magazine. One point of article is that McCain 2008 is not the same as McCain 2000.

Touting conservative ideology may be effective in a campaign, but Republican or Democrat, at the end of the day, Keynesian economics is what really influences decision making. Tax cuts and increased taxes + more government spending essentially have the same effect as long as the money supply keeps moving.

It's the economy stupid! More like...it's Keynesian economics, stupid!

While I understand the need to help people with increasing costs, is removing a gas tax really the way to go? Does he think three months is going to change anything? The problem is that the government doesn't help create towns and cities that can be more energy efficient, particularly related to transportation.

It's obvious for all to see that McCain 2000 is not this McCain-

What does this mean? he's not a "maverick" as the myth goes but just your typical politician

  • [6] ab April 15, 2008 - 11:32AM

Why does he sound pissed off all the time?

Yawwwwn. Uh, oh, um. I just heard John McCain say something. Mr. McCain already looks like he's been in office for 2 years, if you know what I mean. What will he look like in 2010 if he does get to become ... I can't say it.

On the one hand you've got Obama trying to convince everyone he's not an elitist, and McCain decides to cut gas taxes. Which do you think plays better with swing voters?

  • [9] David from NYC April 15, 2008 - 11:35AM

    ab,

just going on the magazine article, McCain's approach in 2000 was just what you said, "a maverick." This time, he sought Jerry Falwell's support. 2000-he rightly called Falwell out for being a big part of what's wrong in the GOP.

    Etc.

Obama WILL make gas free for every American and come pump it into your SUV personally!

Obama WILL double the amount of labour and memorial day holidays.

Obama WILL pay your mortgage on your primary residence AND your 'spec' home you bought with that great 'adjustable' mortgage from CountryWide last year.

It's too bad that the majority of the MCM doesn't catch up and drop the "maverick" title and call this "new" McCain exactly what he is

Oh wait...what was I thinking....they are too busy alternatey bashing Hillary and Obama to do that....

    LOL at 11

I always felt that McCain was still running on his Vietnam record and the Iraq War. But what we need now is a Business at Home President. And now he talking about letting people who can't pay their mortgages go to the POST OFFICE and get all of US foot the bill for their stupidity??

And then sell their house at a profit?

McCain may have survived Vietnam-- but he's not the President we need in 2009. He's a Has Been and he's out of touch.

The Republicans can do better than this!
