RE: the mention of Condoleeza Rice as Vice-President: Is it just me or is she absolutely unqualified? It seems the consensus is that she is the worst National Security Adviser ever (only goes back to late 1940s or early 50s). It was her job to coordinate the intelligence, military and diplomatic angles for the Iraq War enterprise and its aftermath. 'Nuff said.
I have trouble picturing a McCain/Rice ticket, especially now with the revelation that Rice had such a direct hand in the enhanced interrogation techniques, torture, of Al Qaeda members.
Chris O, it's not just you. The mention of Rice as a v-p candidate sends shivers down my spine.
This poll is irrelevant -- there's not going to BE a Democratic ticket with both Obama and Clinton on it.
The polls mean nothing now - there is no engagement. They mean about as much as the polls that had Guiliani leading the Republican race all through 2007.
The Republican brand is poison. Look at Hastert's seat. Look at turnout in the primaries.
McCain/Rice:
An Anti-torture bill sponsor and a PRO-TORTURER
(Rice) on the same ticket..???
until the offical said that RICE chaired these meetings, it might have been a possibility...

This may make me start updating my original blog again...
Obama WILL fill Madison Square Garden.
Obama WILL pay your mortgage off.
Obama WILL cure cancer by force of will alone.
Obama WILL save the whales.
Obama WILL fuse atoms together over the weekend to create renewable energy for everyone in the world.
Obama WILL save the economy by ending ALL trade.
FOBO = "friends of Barack Obama"
this issue is not going away
- racists
- anti-semites
- socialists
- crooks
- etc.
this helps McCain alot with moderates...

No, not just you...I think one of the worst ever would be accurate to say
Wow, McCain/Rice?! Really? Guess we must be headed in the right direction afterall! All this talk of economic downturn and a failed foreign policy must just be media hype. Looking forward to another four years of this, way to go guys! Alright!
#1 & #9
Because Obama is more 'qualified' to be President because of his vast experience in public affairs / management / foreign policy, correct?
I suppose Ms. Rice's experience and background as:
* Secretary of State;
* National Security Advisor;
* Provost of Stanford University;
* Growing up as an African-American female in the segregated South;
isn't enough to 'qualify' her for a Vice-Presidential role?
#11
Are you serious??? You can't be...you must be making an ironic statement? You can't possibly be trooting out the old battered argument of "experience" when effectiveness, judgement and plain old morality would trump experience.
After all Rumsfeld and Cheney are VERY exprienced and yet their policies were an utter disaster. Rice has been innefectual and has been a key player in the policies of one of the WORST presidential administrations in American history and now we find that she had a direct hand in the so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques" (i.e. TORTURE)
Uhhhh...yeah her shameful and innefectual record in the Bush administration should disqualify her immediately. So let's stop talking about "experience" it's a weak argument in the face of what we've been through in the last almost 8 years! One's resume does not necessarily give us an accurate picture of one's JUDGEMENT!
Seems to me the best way to evaluate someone's judgment is to look at their actions. That is the only reason a longer resume might be useful. If you want to evaluate someone's performance in the past, you hve to look at the resume and not just listen to what they say. They are only going to tell you what you want to hear. This goes for anyone applying for a job.

And by that estimation (past actions i.e. her record in the Bush administration- bad judgements, bad policy, innefectual, hands dirty in torture policies= complete and utter failure) Condaleeza would be a bad unqualified choice by any measure
Looking at the positions she held as stated in comment #11 i.e. just looking at a list on a resume is a POOR measure of judgement. Her time with the Bushies show an appaling lack of good judgement. Exactly my point!
It's not just about "experience", judgement trumps exerience every time!
Obama doesn't need experience, he has 'judgement'!
Obama doesn't need morals, he has Rev. Wright!
Obama doesn't need a resume, he has Oprah!
Obama doesn't need supporting facts behind arguments, he has ab!
Hi ab, #14:
I would say that is a fair assessment of her record. I'm just saying that the best way to evaluate a public official is to examine his/her record of actions (as you did in the case of Rice). Then you can decide what is important to you about that individual's actions. Not everyone will agree on what is important. That is why intelligent and scrupulous people do not always agree. I'm also saying that the presence of a public record is helpful so that you can examine an individual's actions (as you did in the case of Rice). I agree that experience alone is not enough, the actions taken in that experience are important.
LOL @ #15!
Frankly I'd be astonished if McCain picked the person closest to W as his #2. He talks a good game but I don't for a minute believe he's forgotton the hatchet job done on him by
the Bush team back during the 2000 primaries.
Your reporters from Brooklyn are all wet! I'm glad Mr McCain had a chance to repair to a local eatery after his tet a tet at Windows. the nearby Verranzano Pizzeria makes a passable slice but it is by no means one of the most popular ! There just isn't that much foot traffic on that corner of 4th Avenue . The next time you want information about the hinterrland of Bay Ridge don't rely on the Brooklyn Paper. Its coverage of Bay Ridge in recent months has been drastically cut back due partly to financial pressures and a perhaps in no small measure to inherent Heights/Slope snobbery.
