Most likely Gov. Spitzer has made his decision already but I have an idea for him: Use his credentials and expertise to bust open international prostitution operations that coerce and deceive women, girls and young men and boys into entering this field. We thought the big operators were only in Thailand and India. Multiple reports claim that a Newark-based operation is luring young women from Eastern Europe with the promise of domestic service jobs, then "surprising" them once they arrive with the real nature of their work. They are in defacto prisons and have no choice or options (or at least believe they don't.) Before we start calling prostitution a "victimless crime" let's demand to see "sex workers" contracts and benefits packages.
I hope my tone was civil and my comment on point. Actually I am seeing red over this matter.
Yes, but don't forget the "ring" that Spitzer went to was not the kind of operation you are talking about where they trick women from eastern europe and hold them captive. I wonder if prostitution were legal if that kind of thing would even occur.
At any rate...put a fork in him, Spitzer is done.He won't be "busting" any prostitution operations or anything else. His political career is DOA.
I don't care about him going to prostitutes but I do care about the money. He needs to resign, he's a liability at this point. The real tragedy here is that scumbag Bruno wins and the citizens of New York state therefore lose.
If I were him I'd hang in there. What's he got to lose now? With contrition and powerful ideas for positive change it would be a(nother) great New York story in 50 years.
Yes, this may be Spitzer's first real test. Family too.
FYI the politics as usual will continue. the GOP are holding on for dear life to the last stronghold in the northeast. when the dems take the senate three men in a room with continue. they will just be all in the same party.
It's almost ludicrously cliched that the occassion for the coming-to-power of a "true progressive" (i.e. read: liberal) must start with a discussion of raising taxes (on "them" of course, i.e. the rich, etc - NOT US ;). This could be a real learning opportunity - for everyone.
What these to Bozos are saying is that its time to get back to buisness. This means that we all lose. Why does Brian let these two get away with it is beyond me.
Wouldn't it be a nice change if we Progressives could instead offer a vision of efficient & effective management of the public's business with the enormous resources already provided by the public. Think of the change in political culture in America if progressives took on the challenge of actually fixing one very large function of modern government (such as education - the fixing of which would entail very profound progress for so many). If Patterson does for education in New York state what Giuliani did for crime in New york city, think of the change in the public's view of Progressive's that might follow. To take on and succeed in solving such a large public sector problem could be the beginning of a long enchantment that would make for real progressive CHANGE in America.
I think Paterson will be a sane calm intelligent force for good.
I am very disapointed in this soon to be ex govenor thinking that i was getting change instead i get a player getting high priced hookers to be with this man who i voted for once called himself a patacek liberal is now just plain patecek.
