Do Men's Prisons Work for Women?
From the prison nursery to the prison libraries, former female inmates discuss what changes they would recommend for women in prison. Sarah From, Director of Public Policy and Communications at the Women's Prison Association; Kathy Coughlin, Deputy Commissioner for Programs and Discharge Planning at the NYC Department of Correction and Luz, a member of the advocacy project discuss their ideas.
WPA is a good example of the services that people need when they return home. The public needs to understand that people for the most part do come home after serving their time. If they don't have health and support services, housing, employment opportunities, they have a very poor chance of staying OUT of prison. The State needs to do a better job on re-entry: use money from prison closures for community based services, not more prisons.
