Negropante is completely delusional and a lair.

To say he didn't remember the torture tapes is a blatent lie. Of course he knew about them and in fact he probably destroyed them himself.

Negropante said the US is an open and free society is a fantasy. This country is more sinister in it's covering up it's policies because it is disguised by democracy.

Negropante said Abu Grab was dealt with are you kidding??? A few bad apples??? Nonsense. The order to treat the Iraqis that way came from BUSH.

on changing us policy to suit protesters:

us govt. and citizenry (on all sides of issues) has no monopoly on ignorance -- at least we have ny times and of course wnyc.

if i were learning about the history of the mideast or us from "hammas educational publishing co" i may have a few biases myself -- which might not change a whit even if the us took every high road.

Finally Brian has a guest on that doesn't support Israeli Policy unconditionally. I'm surprised he doesn't have Dershowitz on too.

Why does Israel need our protection? She can protect herself.

Someone who seems to know what he's talking about and with certainty. He seems to have it on point too!

Those who were hanged at the Nuremberg trials after WWII were convicted of "planning and waging an aggressive war". Those who planned and waged the aggressive war against Iraq should be put on trial.

Israel needs protection from people like you.

Brian - please have this guy on at least once a week. At last, someone who makes sense.

I notice most of the anti-Israel commenters on these boards (the handful of regulars, as with other boards I'm sure) express themselves with a mean spirit.

    Probably no coincidence.

Camping from London to Katmandu in 1976 with 20+ strangers from 9 countries we, males and females, were stoned on many occasions for no known reason other than our cultural (?) difference, sometimes within 10-15 minutes of stopping the Bedford truck to shop. We learned quickly to move on as the first rocks were pitched. It was interesting to hear this author's comments.

Scheuer is such a phony - with all his military "yes sirs." He whines about being a lable a defeatist. Then he claims we "lost" in Iraq and Afghanistan. And when Brian questions him - he quickly backtracks and says - well, we're closer to losing in Afghanistan than in Iraq.

But he'll sell a lot of books with his provocative ideas and "yes sirs".

    Crafty guy.

    USA,

You say that the anti-Israeli commenters have a mean spirit. I can't really speak of the message board's history but on this thread, there are 2 comments that can be classified as "anti-Israeli", even though they are not objectively anti-Israeli. One asks why we defend Israel when she seems quite capable of defending herself. The other observes that it is rare to hear a critical voice of Israel without having the counter-voice. Neither is remotely mean-spirited. So what are you talking about?

Osama bin Laden stated in his September 7, 2007 message:

"If you want to understand what's going on and if you would like to get to know some of the reasons for your losing the war against us, then read the book of Michael Scheuer."

I found this on wikipedia, and was absolutely floored. Very interesting.

    Andrew,

If that quote is true, I suggest Scheuer confirm how good a falck he is shilling for Bin laden in the West that he use the Bin Laden quote as a blurb on the back over of his book.

Guess what, we don't like the Islamists foriegn policy either.

Maybe I should strap bombs around my 2 kids (8 and 11 years old) so they can murder kids in Egypt or Saudi Arabia or Syria or Iran to protest their brutal foreign policies...

Maybe I'll start a campaign to hang gay teens in public because it doesn't fit my religous views.

After all that's what Iran does and we must honor their rage and their differing views on foriegn and domestic policy....

Scheuer and those who think like him - i.e. we must change our policies to appease the Islamist street mob -- scare me.

why do we always see a spike in left-satisfying political topics during pledge drives?

  • [16] Stephen Levine from Somerset, NJ February 13, 2008 - 08:47PM

Michael Scheuer said to Brian Lehrer this morning that in order to win in Iraq and in Afghanistan, we should have had at least 500,000 troops in EACH of those countries. Brian should have asked Michael; You mean that we should have had, and need to have, a UNIVERSAL DRAFT, since there is NO WAY to have those troop levels with an all volunteer Army and National Guard, right?
