The Brian Lehrer Show

Fountains of Wayne (and his columns)

Friday, February 08, 2008

It's Wayne Barrett's 30th anniversary at the Village Voice. (And he's been a guest on the Brian Lehrer Show over 20 times!) In his three decades of muckracking, he's covered some of the city's biggest stories, been removed from a Pataki fundraiser by police, written a biography of Donald Trump, and been a leading critic of Rudolph Giuliani. On today's show, Brian turns the tables and grills Wayne about New York, politics, and...Wayne.

The least known political fact that voters don't know is that we don't have a local media in NYC because we are served by the large media conglomerates based here and the media outlets in the City (Newspapers, TV stations) are always playing to a national audience and the reporters, broadcasters see NYC coverage as the last stepping stone to landing a national position at the conglomorate headquarters in Midtown.

As a result we hardly hear about corruption, and the mismanagement of the thousands of 'Independent' Authorities and agencies

Could Mr. Barrett please discuss his book with James Ridgeway called "City for Sale" about the Koch administration & how Rudi Giuliani made his name bringing down corrupt people like Donald Manes, Meade Esposito and Stanley Friedman?

Does Wayne Barrett think we'll ever get a look at Giuliani's records, which he had moved into storage in the middle of the night at the end of his last term?

A difficult choice? Deciding which pizza to have delivered is going to have more effect than your vote for president. So don;t agonize too muc there buddy. Nobody but you cares how you vote, nobody but you is counting your vote.
