ombama belongs to a "black nationalist church"
what does that mean??
I hate to raise this on MLK's birthday... I'm a big supporter of Sen. Obama, and I believe in his optimism and his inspiration, but I keep getting emails from my Jewish mother about Obama's connections to Louis Farrakahn and antisemitism. I have never seen anything myself which indicates he is antisemitic, so I find myself wondering if this is true or just someone trying to stir up the long-time animosity between the Jews and African Americans. As anything legitimate known about this?
I don't hear much about candidates' public service background including working for a community-based noprofit organization such as the community organizing organization he worked for in Chicago. It strikes me as different from other candidates, who primarily have business experience, law expereince, etc. Does this set him apart from the other candidates, or do we just not hear about this kind of experience from the other candidates?
I heard that Obama was the president of the Harvard law review. True? If so, why didn't he become a clerk for a Supreme Court Justice? Seems like he would've had a good shot.
I was curious about Obama's upbringing - what were his formative years like, from a socio-economic standpoint? Could you expound on his education at a Madrasa and how his experiences as a younger person shaped his desire to enter politics? Thanks!
comments on obama's record on israel? thank you

Given Obama's background of working on public housing issues on the south-side of Chicago, I'm shocked that he has said nothing (to my knowledge) about Hurricane Katrina and the treatment of African-Americans, including the recent demolishing of multiple public housing units in New Orleans. Edwards is the only candidate that has addressed these issues.
Why is there no mention of his sister?
What is Obama's positon on gun control?
Although Obama is bright, he has no business running for president--now. Maybe in the future once he has more experience. Two years in the Senate, a couple of years in the Illinios Senate, some community work? Come on! Just because he's a good speaker doesn't mean he can govern. If Obama were a white male, people who reiterate the aforementioned.
Ever notice in debates that he never specifically states where he stands on specific issues? He's a blank canvas for frustrated people to paint their own picture of what they would like in a leader. Very similar to Ross Perot. Unpleasant surprises await Obama supporters if he wins.
Question:
A first term Senator as President, staffing will be key. What's his record on building a good staff? Ted Kennedy is, I believe the gold standard in this regard. How does Obama stack-up?
To LAURA _ POST #2 - This is just under the radar negative propaganda either from Supremacist groups or from Clinton surrogates who feel that they need to raise doubts about his support of Israel and Jews in order to marginalize him. This does not mean that he is a right wing supporter of people like Netayanhu. He is as pro-Israel, or as anti-semitic - whichever way you want to judge it - as Michigan Senator Carl Levin who is Jewish and who has endorsed Obama.
NOW - if your politics are close to Lieberman then you would probably find disagreements with Obama ( Remember, Lieberman has attended and supports 'Christian' groups who support the right wing policies of Israel in order to facilitate Christ's second coming and complete the destruction of Jews - No one questions Lieberman's Jewishness or his sanity!)
Bryan--Thanks for doing this show. If you get to talk about Obama's current positions (and that of the other candidates later on), I'd like to hear about his plans for education and specifically No Child Left Behind. Although the war and the economy are crucial issues for the entire country, NCLB is something that affects parents immediately in a very visceral way, since it is molding (distorting, in my mind), the way our children are being educated every day in the classroom.
Ellen
P.S. Thanks for including Dennis Kucinich in your lineup!
to JANE RIVERS - POST #5 - PLEASE STOP your SMEAR - Barack Obama NEVER ATTENDED a Madrasa - He attended an Indonisian Public school as a child BECAUSE he was living in Indonesia at the time - Remember - Indonesia at the time was a Dictatorship friendly to the US
All the comments made today describe a guy who is very impatient and leaves things when he feels they're not going his way or fast enough.
Could you explain why you have to go to Wikipedia for Obama's resume? Is that a credible source of information on anything? Is this where journalists go to get information on candidates?
Response to Post 11 - If that is the standard, what qualifies Hillary to govern or serve as an executive? I hear "35 years of experience" bandied about, but have yet to hear the details. Also, last time I checked, sleeping with the President does not a president make.
I am glad to hear someone(the teacher) raise the question of people run for one office while holding on to another.Aside from ethical questions like pay these people were elected by us to represent our interest for 6 years, not two. This is one of the reasons why I hesitate to vote for one of them.
I live in southwestern Bed-Stuy (north of the Nostrand Ave. stop on the A train) and there are hundreds of Obama posters on businesses and in windows of brownstones. Not one Hillary poster.
I attended yesterday's event at the Brooklyn Museum and really enjoyed it. Thank you!
Kiki, I agree with your comments on Hillary.
I totally agree with Kiki as well
There hasn't been much discussion from the candidates regarding issues of people with disabilities. I would like to hear more conversation on this topic. Thank you.
I would like to know if the Senators and Congressmen running for office have any interest in serving their current elected positions. I recall seeing Chris Dodd as the lone Senator prepared to filibuster the telecoms immunity bill. Talk is cheap
Obama = a republican victory in 2008!. obama afterwards will for ever in public disgrace and his supporters probably will be sent to guantanamo to think about their naivetee
