    Sure, war-robots can save lives on our side -- the way bomber jets and other long-distance killing technologies can. But whenever we replace soldiers with yet more machines, we lose touch with morality, honor, and all of the costs of war.

    And you have to wonder if such machines could bankrupt us in some large, optional conflict. You can buy machines with money you don't have, but you can't fight with soldiers you don't have.

    I saw very little all year on the proposed missile shield in Poland, etc, and Putin's negative reaction to it--the missile shield itself has usually been viewed as an expensive ineffective indulgence on our part, so why would either side be so adamant about this issue, and why is the story itself so underreported, or more imporantly, so underanalyzed?
