This sounds great, depending on how it's done, of course. I'd like to see standards on what kinds of foods are supported, to screen out health food fads that are over-hyped or not really healthy (like sodas with alternative sweeteners that still have sugar levels, as listed on the Nutrition Facts label, as high as those in mainstream soft drinks).
This is especially important because of the many supermarket closings in poorer neighborhoods. The other aspect is the price of health food products. Organic produce & prepared foods cost so much more than their conventionally grown counterparts, & now that they're showing up in regular stores, they cost even more there than in the health food stores!
BTW, since you're using a different call-in no. today, could you please repeat it more often? I can't call in because I missed it! And maybe you could put it on the web page for the days when you use it.
A large part of the problem is what kids learn to eat from their peers and at the school lunch program.
My daughter graduated from the NYC public schools two years ago. Until she went to school she ate only healthy food. At school she was exposed to junk food in the form of what was served for the school lunch program and has refused to eat vegetables and other healthy food ever since.
