    One thing that the government doesn't consider is that the more tax burden they place, the more people will avoid it. I moved to NYC to save up my money for a home. As soon as I have enough, I plan to move to a place where the cost of living is small, and make as little as I can per year (and thus pay less taxes) to live on and support my family.

    What it boils down to is that the higher the burden, the more motivated I am to avoid it.

    I do my taxes on turbotax and the program will automatically flag you if you qualify to pay AMT and will make you go through the calculations.
