Susan Siegel, outgoing executive director of the Flatbush Development Corporation (FDC)and Zenobia McNally, local resident and business owner and Eve Baron, director of The Municipal Art Society Planning Center and the project manager for Imagine Flatbush 2030, discuss their efforts to create a community-directed development plan for Brooklyn's Flatbush neighborhood.

    A reminder that it was community advocates for Grand Army Plaza that were able to push a plan for the traffic circle through the system.

    Once citizens see that their actions matter on all sorts of issues, lack of participation will never be the problem.

    Why are the wealthy developers making all of the decisions about the zoning of middle class and working class neighborhoods?

    I just went to the MAS website hoping to find the info re: the upcoming meeting just mentioned on the segment, 12/18 or 19. It's not there. If possible, please post a link to the actual contacts organizing the meeting.

    These people complaining about density are the same that complain about the lack of affordable housing. Also, "affordable housing", i.e non-market housing is subsidized by your taxes, others common charges, sale price or rental prices. The system does not work and only benefits very few while making it very expensive for everyone else. What we need is more supply of housing generally, by tens of thousands of units to bring prices down -- it may amaze most of you, but supply and demand does work -- we can see this in the rest of the country that over built -- prices are plummeting.
