will these buildings be green??
NYC could really use a small business incubater zone and west side might be a good place for it.
It is a shame that Architect and Urban Planner Robert Geddes' proposal known as "the Flip" is no longer being considered for this West Side area. This scheme elegantly linked Midtown with the West Side and the Hudson River through a new Convention Center extended over several east-west blocks. In addition the proposal included new office space, commercial and retail space, and a large amount of new housing. The scheme would have enhanced the land values of the blocks directly to the north, and could have paid for itself through the increased revenues this woudl have generated.
These results would have been good for the citizens of New York and the city in general, rather than simpy bringing profit to developers.
Again, it is a shame the selection process does not enable such broad and visionary solutions.
