How "open" should international adoptions be? Two mothers of daughters adopted in Guatemala talk about the issue. Elizabeth Larsen wrote "Did I Steal My Daughter? The Tribulations of Global Adoption" in the November/December issue of Mother Jones magazine and Maggie Jones wrote ""Looking for Their Children’s Birth Mothers" in the October 28th issue of the New York Times Magazine.

    i am always perplexed when adoptive parents ask for more transparency in adoption. does it not occur to them that they also need to be as transparent as they want the services to be? and would it really stop them from following through on adopting a child? as an adoptee and in the field of social work, it is very frustrating to hear such a level of entitlement. in addition, opening an international adoption is a delicate matter, it will be interesting to see how the children of this adoption generation view their stories when they become adults.
