The minute the D party gives up on the racist white male south, it'll become a party I'll be proud of. Nixon's southern strategy was a great long-run boon to the D party because it got rid of a huge hoard of racists. Ds can win without them, so don't even bother. Make the South the irrelevancy it deserves to be in a progressive country.
Ha. As if to prove my point, I just checked a lefty blog that links to state blogs. There's no lefty blog for S. Carolina. As I said, fugettaboutit. Let them continue to wallow in their parochialism.
In general, I am very much in favor of Dean's 50 state strategy, but there are a select few I'd omit.
Of course I hope to vote for the best candidate, depending on the circumstances I would consider voting for a northerner as opposed to a southerner because we've just had too many southerners in office since Kennedy, the exception being Reagan. I realize that Texas and Bush may not be considered "the south" per se, but it would be good to see a little geo-political balance, and if I didn't like Hilary so much I would certainly consider Guiliani. It would be great to have a lifelong New Yorker in the White House.
