You should probably mention that all these films have been total flops, so it seems that in that sense at least they are not films about 'what the war means to the American people'.
Could Owen please elaborate on the acting he was not convinced by in "Redacted"?
One thing they didn't have time to get into is films about the war -- or about the state of things in America in the midst of war -- that are not _explicitly_ about the war. We live in a time when everything is supposed to be literal, and I sometimes feel obliged to point out that a film like George Romero's _Land of the Dead_ is about more than just a bunch of zombies laying siege to a gated community amid the wreckage of a great nation.
