  Isn't it true that we do not have the assistance of our allies in Europe because the did not get a piece of the pie-that we privitized Iraqi oil and took all the contracts.

  And where is the diplomatic surge??? Nowhere???

  You can find a lot of fault in Giuliani, but when you get right down to it, people will trust him more on the visceral issues like terrorism and crime. I'm not saying he's stronger or better than the Democrats. But Democrats have been terrible in defining themselves on these issues.

  When are the Democrats, read Charlie Rangel, going to realize that last night's speech was a foregone conclusion and that the Republicans are going to continue to support Bush no matter what?

  There aren't going to be regional talks. The Europeans aren't going to help us out. Bush is going to leave office with at least 100,000 US troops in Iraq. As for Al Qaeda, my understanding is that in Iraq, it is mostly Iraqis. To my mind, that makes what is happening in Anbar more Iraqi on Iraqi violence.

  Mr Rangel should realize that we, his constituents, are tired of hearing Democrats talk about this. I don't expect them to overcome not having the votes to end this war. But then, make it what it is, a Republican war. Lay it on all those Republicans who talk tough against the war and then go along with the same policy. Stop talking about compromises. These people don't compromise.

  And by the way, it might be nice if Mr Rangel would come into my neigborhood more often. I've lived in his district for 20 years and I've never seen him there.

  Combat troops don't get to challenge the decisions of their leaders? Especially when they know they are wrong, that their policies are wrong, that their orders are wrong? Just because you are a soldier and are expected to follow the discipline of your outfit does not mean you give up your individualism or humanity... combat troops are after all Americans, and have the same rights as the rest of us sitting comfortably in their living rooms or standing in Congress talking on and on about the war and doing nothing about it.

  I'm sorry -- if I had any respect for Congressman Rangel before, I believe he has now shown himself to be out of touch with reality. He has been in Washington too long and it has overtaken his better judgement. No one who fights for the rights of the citizens of the United States, who provides the people with their security, and willingly puts their life on the line so that all Americans may enjoy their freedom should ever be told that their opinion does not count. I believe the Congressman owes the combat troops of the United States a formal apology.

  It amazes me how many people are buying into Giuliani's claims that he is an expert in crime and terrorism.

  He put the city command center in wtc 7, a known and proven target. It's weird that no one thinks Giuliani daft for walking around downtown befuddled and not safe in a command center.

  As for crime, everyone knows (or should) that William Bratton was the man behind the reduction in crime in the city. Also crime was dropping nationally in the 90's, and as this link shows a lot of people are still unsure why...

  Brian just now noticed the long term policy is to have a continued presence in region? Was he kidding. Even Hillary knows the boys arent coming home any time soon.

  Rangle was saying war veterans can't comment on political issues. That just made no sense. I'm glad Brian challenged him on that point, but his clarification was just as confusing. Charlie tends to produce heat but little substance.
