    Dear Mr. Lehrer:

Thank you for the indispensible service that you provide. I listen to your excellent program every day. I find you, your show, and your guests informative, interesting, and entertaining. In our unfortunate world of media manipulation, I rely on you, especially, and WNYC in general, for the unvarnished, unspun truth - in depth and probing.

You have become for me, and doubtless many others, what Walter Cronkite was said to be for a previous generation. I trust you to get to and tell the truth. Good luck and keep up the excellent work.

    Sincerely,

    Edward Villani

Ditto to the above - and you do it with such grace.

Ditto ditto-- and I want to add that there was no better media outlet to spend the morning of 9/11.

But getting to the subject of this segment, Randi Weingarten is an oxymoron as a union leader. Public school teachers are under constant fire, criticism and persecution in today's political climate, and the forces of privatization are winning. Randi doesn't fight for teachers. She doesn't stand up for them. She doesn't represent a strong political voice against these forces.

What they need is Al Shanker.

PS, I love you Brian, but nice to have the Randi Weingarten segment when school's back in session, and with no call-ins.

How can I hear today's segment with Randi Weingarten?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Thank you Dr. Kwan for FINALLY explaining that people who get Asian eyelid surgery do not necessarily want to look "western".

Although I have not had the surgery, I have been arguing this perspective for years. Interestingly, I get more arguements from other Asian people that the surgery is to look "western". It's nice to hear a professional explain it.

Last week, my friend in San Francisco told me that some Caucasian girls pull their hair back tightly to look more Asian.

Suspecting that my greatest brilliance has been the applied genius of surrounding myself with magnificent teachers decade after decade, how ardently do I wish that a real teacher would run for the office held by your guest. Hard to find anyone in that system more concerned with self-aggrandizement and equally less so with the benefit of teachers who are at the top of any list of ultimate influences. So sad. Kakistocracy thrives, doesn't it?
