Oh Boy...just what I need Monday morning is an immigration show
Why do they even debate if our votes don't count for anything? They should just have meetings with the electoral college and let them know how much they are willing to bribe them.
Althought I did not watch the debate, I am glad it happened in Spanish. The Latino population that is able to vote is very high, but feels very alienated during election times. This helps them feel informed, and an important contributor to this country, and althought I do believe everyone needs to speak English, the reality is that many older people will not grasp it the same way as young ones, but that should not stop them to be able to make a choice in who their president will be.
Debates should be translated into ever language and its length shouldn't be determined by commercial breaks. Neither of this will happen, and the latino vote doesn't matter imo, unless they start moving into south.
Por favor, en Estadios Unidos la lengua es Engles! There is no reason why 2nd generation immigrants should not speak the language that this country was founded upon; all of this semantic BS about official language is pathetic.
Univision can do what they want, it is their channel and a free country, but please wake up an realize that you live in the United States of America. The fence is partly about terrorists and mostly to keep out the 20million folks that like to ignore the laws of this country. Go see how Mexico deals with such trespassers, they are not giving them driver's licenses, bank accounts and letting them bleed hospitals via emergency-room-healthcare.
The no-special-accommodation caller made a point that cannot be ignored. The 17 million? or so, Spanish population, cannot be less ignored either. It's a market of millions of dollars and millions of votes -more than any other single immigrant group. If you want to lure them, stop being quirkish.
Is Carl Rove going to advise Thompson on his Presidential run or run his campaign from the shadows? ?
How about a debate in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Hungarian, Russian, French, German, Swahili, Urdu, Hindi or any other? Why discriminate in favor of any foreign language? English should be good enough for one and all in this country.
