The Brian Lehrer Show

Welcome to Bloglyn

Monday, August 06, 2007

Stats from the web show Brooklyn is the bloggingest borough. On our next program, a diverse group of Brooklyn bloggers compare notes on why there's so much to write about in Kings County, New York. Also, excerpts from—-as well as your reactions to--the Republican presidential debate, the latest on what’s ailing honeybees, the other scandal brewing in Albany, and a review of the Yearly Kos blogger convention.

The Hawkeye Forum

Ruben Navarrette, Jr., syndicated columnist with the Washington Post Writers Group, and Rick Klein, senior political reporter at ABC News, discuss the first Republican presidential debate in Iowa.

The Other Albany Scandal

While Albany is consumed with whether aides to Governor Spitzer tried to smear Joseph Bruno another scandal is quietly unfolding. Some are concerned that Empire Zones, areas once designated as needing jobs and investment, are evolving into a pork barrel scam. Nicholas Confessore, Albany Bureau New York Times Reporter, weighs in.

Where the Bees Are

Elizabeth Kolbert, staff writer at the New Yorker, and entomologist Jeff Pettis, research leader at the USDA Agricultural Research Service's Bee Research Lab, talk about the dwindling honeybee population.

The Yearly Kos

Gina Cooper, founder of the YearlyKos convention, and executive director of Net Roots Nation, Micah Sifry, co-founder of techPresident, and Gabriel Paneck, a high school student who attended the Kos, provide us an overview of the YearlyKos, the annual convention for liberal bloggers and political activists.
