A media free from the fear of government retaliation is also vital to any democracy in Pakistan.
Aaaaaaaaaaagh!!! I have nothing against Messrs Pillar and Menon, but surely you could have picked up the phone and gotten an Pakistani on? Beena Sarwar? Adil Najam? Khalid Hasan? .... And these are just people in the US Northeast!! I am in California...
The issue should have been discussed with Pakistani officials to give a better grasp and perspective of the situation. Besides the US should stay out of it. It's the country's private matter. And if Pakistan is the refuge of the Taliban, it's not a big deal. They are foremost human beings, like the rest of us and what does it matter where they live. They are everywhere. So why focus on Pakistan? How can you tell how many illegal immigrants you have in your county? and how many of them are terrorists?
