All I'm hearing from the callers is pure cowardice and lack of human compassion. This is greatest example of separation of church and state. This is an example of the conscience trumping the state. Whatever happened to the American ideal of the rebel? The one that does the right thing because it is right? We're all a bunch of cowards now, willing to do whatever to make our lives easier. Paying lip service to our religions but not applying its commandments or lessons. We deserve every bad thing that happens to us. From the evil we visit on others and the weak that allow it.
Church and State should remain separate, but perhaps if they feel so inclined to harbor criminals, please remember we are discussing "illegal immigrants" here, then it might be time for Churches to start paying taxes.
The reality is that we are in a vastly different world than our Parents and Grandparents, mine came through Ellis Island. Other friends of mine came here and jumped through endless hoops and bent over backwards for INS to await a Green-card. The "Cinderella citizenship" being proposed currently is partially our corporations wanting the benefits of cheap labor amongst a myriad of other reasons.
I'm Pro-immigration, but only via legal channels; exploiting our broken borders and immigration policies does nothing to remedy the problems, it only exacerbates them.
